Visitor Information Centre renovation

Project details

  • Location: Glenbrook, NSW
  • Client: Ingrid Donald (Architect) & Blue Mountains City Council
  • Project Challenge: Maintain existing stone feature wall elements of existing information centre and design new open plan modern, steel, timber and glass building to incorporate and support the existing all on a tight budget.

The project brief on this one meant that some of the least structurally competent elements of the original structure were to be kept and the new structure would need to provide support to these elements as well as provide support a new modern style roof and front entry area. The budget for this project was very tight. The custom details required to support the existing stone walls were developed by working closely alongside the architect to ensure her aesthetic was maintained with a practical cost effective solution. The use of timber members wherever possible and re-using large parts of the existing structure meant that the project was delivered in a timely cost effective manner.
